Nikola Jokic dealing with “little injury” after Sunday’s loss at Boston

Don’t panic Nuggets fans. Nikola Jokic is dealing with a very minor and common injury.

In Denver’s 110-103 loss to the Boston Celtics Sunday, Jokic seemed to turn his ankle on the opening tip-off as he limped back on defense. The Serbian superstar continued to lumber around for the first quarter, raising concern for Nuggets fans and the rest of the NBA world.

The injury didn’t stop Jokic from stuffing the stat sheet as he finished Sunday’s game with 20 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists in 39 minutes despite the loss. He also reassured reporters and fans after the game that it wasn’t anything serious.

“[I’ve limped for] basically the last 14 years,” Jokic said. “It was just a little injury that I have.”

The Joker wasn’t the only Nugget to get dinged up in Sunday’s loss, as Julian Strawther suffered a leg injury in the third quarter and never returned.

For Michael Malone and the Nuggets, Jokic has traditionally been an iron man, as he has played in 55 of the team’s 62 games this season, and hasn’t played in less than 69 games in a season in his career.

Jokic was dealing with other physical problems Sunday as he was constantly bombarded in the post, and even drew blood early in the game at the hands of Boston’s physicality.

Despite all the contact Jokic dealt with throughout the game, he did not shoot a single free throw all afternoon. He managed to get some foul calls from the officials in the second half after a first half of tough luck, but none of those led to free throws. This was just the second time all season that Jokic did not attempt a single free throw in a game (Feb. 24 against Indiana).

As of now, Jokic shouldn’t be under any restriction for Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings. The last time the Kings came to Denver, Jokic had 35 points, 22 rebounds and 17 assists in a Nuggets victory.
