Report: Musgrave expected to return as Broncos offensive coordinator

Head coach Vance Joseph may still be in limbo regarding his position with the Denver Broncos, but at least one member of the coaching staff appears to be off the chopping block.

Interim offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is expected to be retained by the club in 2018 in a permanent role, per KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Musgrave took over the position after the Broncos fired then-offensive coordinator Mike McCoy after a Week 11 loss at home to the Cincinnati Bengals — the sixth consecutive defeat in a skid that would last eight games.

Since taking over, Musgrave’s offense has put up 17.6 points per game and 314.5 total yards per game, compared to McCoy’s 18.3 points and 329.8 yards.

The report comes amid speculation about Joseph’s future with the organization. The first-year head coach said he “absolutely” expects to be back in 2018 but had not discussed his job in any fashion yet with general manager John Elway.

“I’m going to obviously visit with John probably tonight or tomorrow. We’ll see, but I want to be here,” Joseph said after Sunday’s season finale at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It’s a football team that’s close. We have to make some adjustments in some places, but our football team all year has not stopped working. That was fun to see, even tonight. It’s been a hard year, but everyone kept fighting. I want to be here to fix it.”
