As the trade deadline barrels down on Major League Baseball, the buzz surrounding the Colorado Rockies dealing shortstop Trevor Story is likely only to grow.

One of Story’s teammates, however, might be worth keeping an eye on as well.

Rockies starter German Marquez has been listed among the 10 most intriguing pitcher trade candidates around the league, according to MLB.com writer Anthony Castrovince.

“Teammate — and pending free agent — Jon Gray is the more obvious rotation trade candidate, even though he’s currently out with elbow soreness. And yeah, there’s going to be a lot of talk about shortstop Trevor Story, too, obviously,” Castrovince writes.

“But Márquez is absolutely a guy the going-nowhere Rockies need to be marketing this summer.”

Marquez, 26, is under contract at an annual average salary of $8.6 million until 2024, though his base salary balloons to $11 million next season followed by $15 million and $16 million in 2023 and 2024.

During his tenure with the Rockies, which includes a fifth-place showing in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2017, Marquez is 46-36 with a 4.28 ERA and a WHIP of 1.288.

So far in 2021, Marquez is 4-6 with a 4.60 ERA and a 1.441 WHIP in 14 starts for Colorado.
