Former Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas jailed on vehicular assault charge

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has been jailed in Denver in connection to a single-vehicle roll-over crash involving him and two others earlier this month, jail records show.

Thomas, 31, was booked at the downtown detention center Wednesday evening and faces charges of vehicular assault, a class-five felony, along with misdemeanors for reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance.

He’s due in Denver County Court on Thursday afternoon.

According to a police report obtained by 104.3 The Fan, Thomas allegedly rolled the silver Ford Edge he was driving just after midnight on Feb. 16 near the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver.

Traveling at a “high rate of speed” near the intersection of 12th Street and Auraria Parkway, the vehicle struck a raised median, “tumbled end over end,” landed on its wheels, and came to a stop on a grassy area near the intersection.

The speed limit for Auraria Parkway at the area is 30 miles per hour, and the vehicle was traveling at 70 miles per hour, according to the report.

Two passengers, a male and a female, and Thomas were injured in the crash and transported to a nearby hospital. While Thomas and the other male had only minor injuries, the female suffered “serious bodily injuries as a result of the collision.”

The Broncos traded Thomas, who had been with the team since being drafted in 2010, in October to the Houston Texans.

Thomas, who is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in December, was released by the Texans on Feb. 12, just days before the wreck.
