Cheers to Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban and shout-out to Big O

This week’s “Cheers and Jeers” takes on a cheerier, holiday-like tone — ‘tis the season after all.

Instead of the cheering and jeering the best and worst of the sporting world, let’s get into the Christmas spirit and run down the “naughty” and “nice” instead:

NICE | Lindsey Vonn proposing to P.K. Subban

The fact that world-class skier — and Colorado’s own — Lindsey Vonn and NHL star P.K. Subban are engaged isn’t really a huge story, as the two have been among the sporting world’s power couples for a few years going.

But, in a refreshing change of tradition, it was Vonn — not Subban — who popped the question over the holidays this year.

Vonn took to social media to announce that she had asked Subban to marry her, saying, “Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings!”

Absolutely correct. And anyone who thinks it’s the “man’s place” to propose doesn’t deserve the waste of oxygen used in arguing.

Congrats, Lindsey and P.K.!

NAUGHTY | The Denver Nuggets Christmas Day woes

The holidays have not been kind to the Denver Nuggets over the years, and this week was no exception.

On Wednesday, for just the second time ever, the city of Denver hosted a Christmas Day game — the Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans — an underwhelming loss for the home squad at the hands of one of the NBA’s worst teams.

But that seems to be par for the course. Before this week, the Nuggets had won just once on Christmas Day in six games, on Dec. 25, 1994, against the Seattle SuperSonics. Comparatively, the Denver Broncos are 2-1 on the holiday over the years.

So, maybe it’s a coincidence. Or maybe it’s destiny. But perhaps the Nuggets should avoid the hardwood until well after Santa’s made his rounds.

NICE | 104.3 The Fan’s own Orlando Franklin

Shout-out to the big fella, 104.3 The Fan’s own and “Orlando and Sandy” co-host Orlando Franklin, who landed as the Denver Broncos top right tackle of the decade, according to the Denver Post.

For the first three of his four seasons in Denver, Franklin started nearly every game at right tackle and played more than 95 percent of the snaps, including 99 percent during his rookie season in 2011.

And just for a little perspective, Big O had just 10 holding penalties during his tenure at right tackle, half of the Broncos current left tackle Garett Bolles has had in the same time period.

NAUGHTY | C.J. Anderson gets the snub from the Seahawks

Speaking of the Denver Post’s Broncos all-decade team, C.J. Anderson makes an appearance on the roster alongside Big O.

One roster he won’t be found on for at least the short term, however, is the Seattle Seahawks.

Anderson was among the handful of players who worked out for Seattle after they lost running backs Chris Carson and C.J. Procise to injury during last week’s tilt with the Arizona Cardinals. But the former Broncos rusher didn’t make the cut.

Instead, the team opted to bring back former Seahawks Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin — neither of which has played a snap in 2019. And Anderson was … shall we say … less than thrilled for his fellow running backs.

But, hey, Anderson’s still got that Super Bowl 50 ring to reflect upon, so everything can’t be that bad.
