Broncos re-sign Pro Bowl long snapper Kreiter, officially cut safety Stewart

The Denver Broncos made sure on Thursday that one of its 2019 Pro Bowlers didn’t make his way out of town in free agency, re-signing long snapper Casey Kreiter to a one-year contract.

Kreiter, who had been set to hit the market as a restricted free agent next week, will reportedly make $1 million in 2019.

The fourth-year pro became the first Broncos long snapper in club history to earn a Pro Bowl nod, handling 146 snaps — 85 punts, 25 field goals, 35 extra points, and one fake punt — without an unplayable delivery.

Joining the Broncos in April 2016, Kreiter has played in 42 games for Denver during the past three seasons.

With the news of re-signing Kreiter, Denver also announced that it had released veteran safety Darian Stewart.

In a post to Instagram on Wednesday, Stewart indicated he would be released by the team and thanked Broncos fans for his time in Denver.

A member of the Super Bowl 50 championship team in 2015, started 58 of 61 games for the Broncos over four seasons, racking up nine interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and one sack.

The Broncos extended Stewart in November 2016, the same season he earned his only career Pro Bowl nod, after he signed a two-year, $4.25 million deal as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.
