Broncos GM George Paton lauded by NFL agents

George Paton has been on the job in Denver for just more than seven months, and the Broncos general manager has already garnered praise from agents around the NFL.

In a survey of 33 representatives conducted by The Athletic, Paton received high marks in several categories, including talent evaluation and trustworthiness.

According to the report, Paton received the most votes among all NFL general managers in terms of whom the agents trusted the most.

“He doesn’t overly complicate things or ride a high horse,” said one representation.

Said another rep: “(Paton) has high football intelligence and is a dynamic personality. Trustworthy and a fair negotiator. I think he’s going to have a lot of success in Denver.”

Paton scored highly in terms of talent evaluation as well, with one agent saying Denver will experience a dramatic “talent influx” with him at the helm.

Among Paton’s offseason acquisitions include signing starting cornerbacks Ronald Derby and Kyle Fuller, retaining Kareem Jackson and Shelby Harris, extending Justin Simmons and drafting Pat Surtain II — all of which could end up starting for Denver’s defense this season.

Those surveyed also considered Paton the top future GM to keep an eye on, though he was hired by the Broncos in January.
