Broncos drop down, miss out on DBs in latest PFF mock

The latest Pro Football Focus mock draft has some similarities to those already released, including the Denver Broncos trading back with the New England Patriots from No. 9 to No. 15, as ESPN’s Mel Kiper also had last month.

It also has its quirks, like that Denver misses out completely on a defensive back in the first round.

Indeed, the PFF mock draft that dropped Monday has the Broncos trading spots with the Patriots — who select quarterback Mac Jones at No. 9 — and then taking Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, linebacker from Notre Dame.

In the process, Denver loses out on two top cornerback targets linked to the team — Caleb Farley from Virginia Tech and Patrick Surtain II from Alabama — who get selected by the Dallas Cowboys at No. 10 and Atlanta Falcons at No. 12.

Comparatively, in ESPN Senior Writer Todd McShay’s latest mock earlier this month, he too had Denver trading with a team seeking Jones, this time the San Francisco 49ers at No. 12.

Denver does shore up its secondary with later picks in the three-round mock draft. With two second-round selections, the Broncos draft cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. at No. 40 overall and then (with a pick from the Patriots) they draft safety Jevon Holland out of Oregon at No. 46.

In Round 3 of the mock, Denver was projected to select interior defensive lineman Alim McNeill out of North Carolina State.
