Broncos agree to terms on 3-year deal with S Talanoa Hufanga

The Denver Broncos agreed to terms with S Talanoa Hufanga Monday, who will be a key piece to further improving Denver's defense in 2025.

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a 3-year contract worth up to $45 million ($20 million guaranteed) with former San Francisco 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga, a great addition to an already talented Denver secondary. KUSA-Ch. 9’s Mike Klis was the first to report the move.

Hufanga, 25, is entering his fifth year in the NFL after spending his first four in San Francisco. He had a breakout year in 2022, earning First-Team All-Pro honors, tallying 97 total tackles, two sacks and four interceptions (one pick-six). He’s struggled with injuries since, as he tore his ACL in 2023 and fought with a wrist injury in 2024.

If he’s able to return to the player he was in 2022, this is a fantastic deal for Denver. This is a player who can play at the line of scrimmage and fly through gaps to stop the run, but can also be a force in pass coverage.

The Broncos mostly played Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke at safety last year. Jones had a phenomenal season as he led the team in tackles (115) while he snagged three interceptions. Hufanga will be a very solid rotational piece to go with these two in 2025, and will be a large component of stopping the run from the third-level.

The injuries are a concern, however, as he has played 17 games total in the past two seasons. If he can stay healthy, he will be a great addition for Denver’s defense.
