The starting five kicked off with Von Miller speaking about possibly receiving the franchise tag on NFL Network. Adam Schefter has reported that Peyton Manning wants to play next year, but it may be difficult for him to find a team that wants him as a starter. The Avalanche made a few trades yesterday before the NHL trade deadline, did the Avalanche make themselves better? The NFL Draft is looming, and this appears to be one of the better drafts for offensive and defensive lineman. It looks that Peyton Manning will not announce whether or not he will retire until next week, what does that do for the negotiations with Brock Osweiler?
The Broncos have officially franchise tagged Von Miller. The guys discussed the implications of the move, and what it means for the team as free agency is set to begin next week. We heard a soundbite from Adam Schefter who spoke with Mike and Mike about the future of Peyton Manning.
Andrew Mason of denverbroncos.com joined Ryan and Shawn. Andrew, Ryan, and Shawn discussed Von Miller getting the franchise tag in which the team and Von have until July to reach a long term deal. Andrew believes that the Broncos have a plan in place for Brock Osweiler when it comes to Peyton Manning. Andrew has the Broncos taking Ezekiel Elliot if he falls to them at the 31st pick in the draft in his first mock draft. Mario Williams is being released by the Bills. Ryan asked Andrew if there’s a possibility he could come to Denver to possibly replace Malik Jackson. Listen to Andrew’s interview HERE.
Hour one closed out with the guys reacting to Andrew Mason’s interview, taking a phone call, and discussing Peyton Manning’s future.
The final hour kicked off with Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports joining the show to talk Avalanche and the NHL. The conversation began with the moves the Avalanche made yesterday before the NHL trade deadline. Greg said he sees a team that needs more help on the blue line when he looks at the Avalanche. Greg said that Semyon Varlamov is the equalizer for the Avalanche when facing off against the more elite teams in the West. Greg believes that the moves made by the Avalanche could be a desperation move by the team. Listen to Greg’s interview HERE.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today joined Ryan and Shawn to discuss Troy Tulowitzki’s comments. Also discussed was the Rockies as a whole. Bob said that the Rockies need to trade away every chip that they have, and start over. As an organization, the Rockies never look outside of the organization for real fundamental change. The Rockies are raising the outfield fences by 8 feet in a couple places before the regular season begins, does this move benefit the opposing pitchers more than their own? There have been former Rockies players that haven’t had nice things to say about the organization. Listen to Bob’s interview HERE.
Today’s show wrapped up with Stat of the Morning. 5 times this season, the Grizzlies have won a game making 3 or less 3 point shots. The guys also talked more about the Rockies and Troy Tulowitzki’s sour grapes.
