Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar will miss Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars.
And he has a great reason why.
Makar is set to become a father at any moment, as his wife Tracy is in labor, per multiple reports from folks in Dallas covering the game. The Makar family is expecting two additions as Tracy is pregnant with twins.

It’s an exciting moment for Cale Makar and Tracy, growing their family and adding a whole new chapter to their lives. Makar signed the biggest contract in NHL history this offseason.
From a hockey standpoint, the Avalanche will miss Makar. He’s the best defenseman in the league and games against Dallas are always critical in the Central Division race, even if it’s early.
The Avs and Stars will play on Wednesday night at Ball Arena in a back-to-back and head coach Jared Bednar didn’t rule out Makar skating in that game. We’ll just have to see how everything goes today with the birth of the twins.
Through five games, Cale Makar has three goals and four assists, good for seven points. That’s trailing only Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon who has 10 points.
Colorado will dress Noah Juulsen in Makar’s place, rolling with six defenseman and 12 forwards. Devon Toews will slot in on the first power play unit, while Sam Malinski runs the second group.
