ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos practiced without cornerbacks Riley Moss and Pat Surtain II and wide receiver Pat Bryant participating as their on-field work in advance of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers continued Thursday.
All three did not participate in Wednesday’s practice in the wake of the injuries they suffered last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Moss has a rib injury, while Bryant and Surtain both suffered ankle injuries that knocked them out of that 24-14 defeat.
Broncos coach Sean Payton said after Wednesday’s practice that he didn’t think either Bryant or Surtain would land on injured reserve. Placing them there would force each to miss a minimum of four games, which would sideline them for the Nov. 1 game against Kansas City and leave them unable to return until the Week 9 contest at Carolina.
“I don’t think so, and if they were, I wouldn’t say so, but I don’t think so,” Payton said.
BRONCOS LIKELY TO FACE DEPLETED CHARGERS ROSTER
In Southern California, the Chargers held their Wednesday practice without eight players on their 53-man roster.
Three starting offensive linemen — left tackle Rashawn Slater, left guard Kayode Awosika and right tackle Joe Alt — along with fourother starters: safety Derwin James, cornerback Donte Jackson, wide receiver Ladd McConkey and edge rusher Khalil Mack, although his absence from Wednesday’s work was due to him receiving a rest day.
In total, the Chargers listed 18 players on their injury report. The Broncos had seven, with Bryant, Moss and Surtain joined by running back Tyler Badie (foot), defensive end Zach Allen (rest day Wednesday), edge rusher Dondrea Tillman (hamstring) and tight end Adam Trautman (shoulder).
All four of those Broncos saw at least limited work Wednesday and were on the field when practice began Thursday.
