Report: Dre Greenlaw fined for ‘taunting’ and ‘cussing’ at the Broncos bench
Dre Greenlaw told Broncos head coach Sean Payton to "get the f— off the field" after the final buzzer and the NFL has taken notice
Watch: Dre Greenlaw is ticked at Sean Payton, which seems odd; after all, he’s the one who didn’t live up to his contract | 52 seconds
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw had a wild Sunday against his old team the Denver Broncos.
Greenlaw led the Niners in tackles with 12 and helped them earn a 24-14 win, moving to 4-0 on the season.
But he also barked at the Broncos bench, mostly ex-head coach Sean Payton, throughout the game. Greenlaw told Payton to “get the f— off the field” after the final buzzer as well.
And the NFL is taking notice according to insider Aaron Wilson. He’s reporting Greenlaw has been fined nearly $12,000 for “taunting” and “cussing” at Payton during the 49ers victory.
The exact fine is $11,941, according to Wilson. It won’t make a big dent in Greenlaw’s wallet, as he’s earned more than $30 million in his career, but it’s a symbolic move by the league.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch, Dre Greenlaw was upset Payton didn’t call him when the Broncos released him in the spring after one disappointing season in Denver.
“The disrespect,” Greenlaw told Branch. “He couldn’t be man to man and call my phone and say, ‘We’re going to cut you.’”
Payton took the high road after the game, saying he loves everything about Greenlaw and thinks the world of him. Clearly in the heat of the moment, an emotional Dre Greenlaw behaved in ways the NFL frowns upon.
And now, it’ll cost him some dough.
