Who has the coaching edge in Broncos-49ers showdown on Sunday?

The San Francisco 49ers arrive with plenty of talent. Brock Purdy is playing like an MVP candidate and Christian McCaffrey is still one of the most dangerous running backs in football. The matchup that may decide Sunday, though, won’t happen on the field. It’ll happen on the sidelines.
On a recent edition of “Dover and Cecil” on 104.3 The Fan, Josh Dover set up the head-to-head.
“Who has the better coaching staff? Kyle Shanahan, Raheem Morris. Sean Payton, Davis Webb and Vance Joseph on the Broncos side,” Dover said.
Both sides have a case. Shanahan is one of the most respected offensive minds of his generation. His run schemes and motion-heavy designs have been copied across the league. Morris, now running the San Francisco defense, brings years of experience as both a coordinator and a head coach. Denver answers with a Hall of Fame-caliber head coach, a first-year play caller still finding his rhythm and a defensive coordinator whose unit has been among the league’s best for years.
Cecil Lammey didn’t take long to pick a side.
“It’s gonna be Sean Payton because he’s got the hardware. That’s the main thing,” Lammey said.
He gave the defensive matchup its due before explaining his reasoning.
“Vance Joseph/Raheem Morris. That’s a hell of a conversation about defensive minds, and bright defensive minds,” Lammey said.
That battle may be the closest one on the field. Joseph’s pressure-heavy approach will test whether Purdy can stay calm, and Morris will have to deal with a Denver offense that has figured things out in the second half of each of the last two games.
For Lammey, though, the tiebreaker is simple.
“But to me, it comes back to who got it done. Who got it done at the highest level, and who’s got a Super Bowl ring. And that’s Sean Payton,” Lammey said.
Shanahan has taken the 49ers to Super Bowls, but he hasn’t won one. Payton has, and Lammey believes that experience outweighs the uncertainty of having Webb call the plays.
“So because of that, even though Davis Webb is not yet very experienced as a play caller, I’m giving the advantage to the Denver Broncos because Sean Payton’s got a ring,” Lammey said.
Webb is only three games into the job, and Shanahan will test him in every way possible. Still, the Broncos have the one coach in this matchup who has already won the whole thing.
