Former Buffs star Shedeur Sanders wins Week 3 NFLPA Community MVP

Former CU Buffs star Shedeur Sanders hasn’t seen the field yet for the Browns this season, but that doesn’t mean he’s not doing great work off it.

Sanders was named the Week 3 NFLPA Community MVP on Friday for his charitable efforts with East Cleveland public schools students.

Not only did Sanders donate 500 backpacks with supplies, but he also went and had pizza and ice cream with the children. That’s showing up and making an impact, something that should be applauded.

“I truly believe in perfect timing, and being named Community MVP means a lot,” Shedeur Sanders said via the NFLPA. “What matters most is those kids knowing they are seen, they are heard and they are felt. If that gives them a little more motivation to keep showing up, then we did our job.”

It’s easy for NFL players to cut a check, it’s another to be present and interact with kids. That’s what Sanders did and they’ll likely remember the day the rest of their lives.

The NFLPA will donate $10,000 to Sanders’ Legendary Impact Foundation and he’s also now eligible for the Alan Page Community Award at the end of year. That comes with a $100,000 donation and is the NFLPA’s highest player honor for outstanding community service.

Good on Shedeur Sanders, who is handling himself the right way after losing a training camp QB competition to Deshaun Watson and waiting for his turn to play.

But he’s still doing the work away from the game and in the community, which feels even more important.
