Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton excited for ‘great responsibility’ of MNF in Week 1

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has played in a ton of important games in his college and pro careers.

And while a Monday Night Football opener against the Kansas City Chiefs won’t be the biggest of his life, it’s still a huge stage.

Football fans across the country and the world will be locked in to the only game on television. There’s an early leg up in the AFC West on the line, plus the returns of Nix and Mahomes from season-ending injuries last year.

On Wednesday after practice, Nix was asked about the Broncos being selected to participate in this tasty primetime showdown.

“Absolutely it doesn’t get old. It’s very exciting. It means that you are in a really good spot as an organization, but it’s also a great responsibility. You get put on Monday Night Football in Week 1, it means you have something to go out there and prove,” Bo Nix said.

The Broncos are trying to prove that going 14-3 last year and earning the No. 1 seed in the AFC was who they are — an elite team in a championship window.

Denver wide receiver Courtland Sutton echoed similar thoughts as Nix.

“It’s exciting to be able to have the opportunity to open up the season, Monday Night Football, all the games are going to be done, college is done, everyone’s played Sunday, Sunday night’s done. The only game that’s going to be on is Chiefs-Broncos, and that’s what’s exciting,” Sutton said.

Mahomes and the Chiefs went 6-11 last year, a stunner after playing in five Super Bowls during a dynastic run. Meanwhile, the Broncos were one game short of fighting for a Lombardi Trophy after Bo Nix broke his ankle and couldn’t play in the AFC Title Game.

“They don’t just hand that out to anybody. I think that it speaks volumes to where our organization is getting back to and where people view the Broncos. I’m looking forward to watching us and the boys go out there and put on a show for everyone,” Sutton said.

Hopefully, that show leads to a 1-0 record and a reminder to the NFL world that Denver is here to stay as a contender.

“We’re excited as a team. It’s going to be a really big challenge, but one that we are going to respond well to. We just have to go out there and play really hard,” Bo Nix said.

The wait is nearly over. We have only four more days until Monday Night Football arrives and the 2026 Broncos begin the chase for a fourth Super Bowl title in franchise history.

The big dogs like Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton sound ready for the moment to arrive.
