Sean McVay goes viral for telling funny Nikola Jokic story

One of the quirks of the Kroenke Sports Empire is that one of the best coaches in the NFL located in Los Angeles and one of the best basketball players in the world located in Denver are co-workers. The two have had some crossover with a quirky story as told by Sean McVay last month, that actually changed how the Rams boss operates on gamedays.

The two have had a documented meetup before, and this may be what McVay references in the forthcoming story. McVay was behind the scenes with the Nuggets during a playoff series loss, as shared in Mike Singer’s tell all book about the three-time NBA MVP.

“I’ll never forget this. This is when I thought, ‘Man, I got to really reevaluate my priorities.’ When Jokicc won the first MVP of his career, it was when they had just finished up,” McVay told. “They lost to the Suns. I go to the playoff game. They had lost at home at Ball Arena, but I go to the locker room afterwards. Nikola sees me and says, ‘Where is your get-back coach?’ And I said, ‘Golly, this is what the NBA MVP knows me as. I am a failure.’ So I don’t think I need it as bad anymore, but that was bad back then.”

So the famed get back coach that held the young head man back earlier in his career that has now disappeared is because of a fun quip from Jokic? Apparently. McVay hasn’t had that personnel for himself again. Though, he had many NFL coaches, get too close to the action and sometimes get in the referees or even the players way.

McVay becoming famous for his unique strategy somehow found its way to Jokic, who is more online than people think, and he was ready to make fun of the coach even after a heartbreaking loss where he was thrown out of the final game of the series in a humiliating sweep.

This story is just another reason why Jokic, is nicknamed Joker — and it’s for more than just the words sound similar.
