Rockies snap seven-game skid as Goodman homers in return

Rockies Report, Game 132:

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Hunter Goodman wasted little time announcing his return from the injured list, launching his 35th home run of the season in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie and launch the Rockies to a 3-1 win at Washington that ended their seven-game losing streak on Tuesday night.

Goodman’s homer awakened the Rockies after an opening three innings in which they had a hit and a walk, but nothing more. TJ Rumfield followed Goodman’s blast by working an eight-pitch walk, and then after a Willi Castro force out that eliminated Rumfield at first base, recent acquisition Connor Norby slashed a line drive off the scoreboard wall in right field to score Castro and give the Rox all the runs they would eventually need. Norby increased his hitting streak to 10 games with the RBI double, although he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

A wild pitch from Washington’s Andrew Alvarez brought home Colorado’s final run int he with inning, scoring Jordan Beck.

The Rox improved to 51-81.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Mason Adams didn’t go long enough to get the win in his major-league debut, and he walked a batter in three of the innings he took the mound before being relieved after allowing a Jacob Young leadoff double in the fifth inning, but he managed to escape trouble most of the night, with the only run at his expense coming on Daylen Lile’s solo shot to lead off the fourth inning.

Adams recorded five strikeouts — three with a four-seamer, one with a sinker and one with a changeup. He got Brady House looking twice.

The Rockies will ideally want to go deeper with him in future starts; he threw 75 pitches Tuesday night. But overall, it was a promising debut.

BITS AND PIECES

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Jordan Romano got Keibert Ruiz to fly out with a runner on first base for the 27th out, giving Romano his ninth save in 10 opportunities since joining Colorado’s major-league roster last month.

NUMBER TO NOTE: .886 — Norby’s OPS with the Rockies since making his Colorado debut Aug. 11.
