Bo Nix eager for first game reps with Davis Webb
"This will be my first time in a game with him in my helmet, and I think it'll be fun," Broncos QB Bo Nix said Tuesday of OC Davis Webb

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has heard new offensive coordinator Davis Webb’s voice in his helmet all traning camp but Friday against the Packers will be the first time it happens in a game — even if it doesn’t really count — and Nix can’t wait.
“This will be my first time in a game with him in my helmet, and I think it’ll be fun,” Nix said Tuesday. “I think first times are always fun. Get out there, something new, something to get used to.”
Webb, who became the OC and assumed play-calling duties from head coach Sean Payton this offseason, has called two preseason games so far — both without Nix on the field. One last year and one last week. The star quarterback liked what he saw from the sideline in this year’s exhibition against Atlanta.
“First drive was really cool,” Nix said. “Six plays, go get a touchdown. You felt the energy on the sideline kind of go throughout the team.”
The transition from Payton to Webb in the headset has gone well, Nix says.
“He’s always going to be the guy that sends me a joke in every once in a while and sort of keeps it lighthearted,” Nix said. “Just as serious as this game is, it can also be fun at the same time.”
Webb, for his part, isn’t asking for much in his debut with the franchise quarterback
“Just a clean operation,” he said. “Get all the feels back — pregame warmups, running out with the team, getting your first completion, getting hit for the first time, getting a first down and hopefully a touchdown.”
Among the new things for Nix in 2026 is standout receiver Jaylen Waddle.
“He’s an elite player, and he makes our room better,” Nix said. “He adds a different level of explosiveness and just allows other guys to be better. Court can be better, Jaylen’s obviously going to make plays. Pat (Bryant) and Troy (Franklin), those guys are going to be there, and then the rest of the guys are going to fall in line.”
Saturday’s home preseason matchup will offer the first real snapshot of what the 2026 Broncos offense looks like with all the new pieces wired together — Webb’s voice, Waddle’s speed, and a Year 3 quarterback that won the biggest game of his life the last time he was healthy.
“You try to treat it as a real one,” Nix said, “and play with maximum intensity until they pull you.”
