Is Broncos defensive lineman Zach Allen on track for the Hall of Fame?

There are players who quietly build careers that nobody fully appreciates until the résumé is already too long to ignore. Zach Allen has been doing exactly that for the Denver Broncos.

Stacking dominant season on top of dominant season, wrecking game plans from the interior, and earning the kind of respect from opponents that never quite translates into the national recognition it deserves. But after last season, Cecil Lammey believes it is time to start talking about Allen in a context that most people haven’t even considered.

On a recent edition of “Dover and Cecil” on 104.3 The Fan, Lammey made a declaration that stopped the conversation cold.

“Zach Allen at that All-Pro level. I mean he’s on a Hall of Fame track,” Lammey said.

That’s a bold statement for a player who doesn’t generate the kind of highlight-reel attention that typically accompanies Hall of Fame discourse. But the production opens up the conversation. Allen is coming off his first career All-Pro selection after recording 7.0 sacks and a league-leading 47 quarterback hits last season.

That last number is the one that matters most. Leading the entire NFL in quarterback hits from the defensive line is not a fluke. It’s the kind of sustained, violent disruption that changes how offenses have to account for a player on every single snap.

Lammey sensed the hesitation in the room and leaned into it.

“People may not want to say that. But that’s what Zach Allen is on!” Lammey said.

Josh Dover admitted he hadn’t connected those dots yet.

“I had never thought about him as a Hall-of-Famer,” Dover said.

That reaction is probably shared by a significant portion of Broncos Country. Allen doesn’t play a glamorous position. He doesn’t generate the kind of social media moments that drive national conversations. What he does is show up every Sunday and make life miserable for every quarterback he faces, consistently, relentlessly, and at a level that is now officially recognized as the best in football.

Lammey then pointed to the relationship that has been central to Allen’s ascent.

“You think of a gold jacket for Zach Allen in the future if he continues this play style that he’s been doing under Vance Joseph. Vance Joseph is his guy!” Lammey said.

That coaching connection matters. Joseph’s defensive scheme has maximized Allen’s skill set in ways that have unlocked production most people didn’t think was in there. The fit between player and coordinator has been seamless, and as long as that partnership remains intact, there is no reason to believe Allen’s trajectory will flatten.

The Hall of Fame conversation is premature by traditional standards. Allen needs more All-Pro selections, more dominant seasons, and more postseason moments before the Canton discussion becomes a serious one. But every player who eventually earns a gold jacket started with a foundation. A stretch of years where the production was undeniable and the trajectory pointed in only one direction.

Allen is in the middle of that stretch right now. And Cecil Lammey just wants to make sure people are paying attention before the conversation becomes obvious to everyone else.
