Rockies series with the Mets all messed up by May snow

The Colorado Rockies are not playing baseball Tuesday night as Denver prepares for a possible May snow storm, which some say could bring over a foot of snow to the area.

Despite what many from outside the region may think with a snow storm during the AFC Championship game and when Lionel Messi visited, it’s been a very dry winter in Colorado. The moisture is needed and had already begun late Monday. night, which is why the first game in the series of three with the Mets was moved up three hours. That was a win for the Mets, after being no hit for the first several innings.

Tuesday night’s game has been pushed back to Thursday afternoon, which was originally supposed to be an off day for each tema.

Wednesday’s day game has been changed to a night game.

The following changes have been made to the remainder of the series against the Mets due to inclement weather:

Tonight’s game has been postponed and will be made up on Thurs. 5/7. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. MT.

Chris Bianchi, 9News Weather guru, said Tuesday evening, “minor forecast tweaks: models trending a bit lower in recent runs, but still think most are in line for four to eight inches close to Denver. May nudge northern CO down a bit though.”

He said earlier in the day there was about a 30% chance nine to 15 inches of snow fell in Denver. The rain is supposed to change to snow late in the day Tuesday, with much of the metro area already seeing flakes late in the afternoon. Meanwhile some areas of the mountains could see as much as two feet of snow with Estes Park getting the most of it.

The moisture, while inopportune for baseball games, will likely even be welcomed by the Coors Field grounds crew. Denver’s declared drought has carried some big-time water restrictions and maybe this late-season storm can ease some of those rules.

As is always true with Colorado and waiting for the weather to change. It should be in the 70s over the weekend with some 80s next week. The Rockies can’t wait though, they’ve got games in Pennsylvania starting Friday and into next week.
