Rockies rebound and explode for 13 runs in rout of Reds

Rockies Report, Game 31:

ROCKIES BOTTOM LINE: Brett Sullivan’s bases-clearing double in the first inning propelled the Rockies in front early and launched them on a trajectory to what would be a 13-2 romp over the Cincinnati Reds that squared their series at Great American Ballpark and clinched a winning road trip through the Eastern Time Zone.

The Rockies kept up the pressure, adding runs in the third and fifth inning before Hunter Goodman extended the lead to 7-0 in the seventh inning when he clubbed his ninth homer of the season, a 415-foot shot that landed in the second level of the left-field stands. Kyle Karros added another run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Five more runs followed in the ninth inning as the Reds sent catcher Jose Trevino out for mop-up duty with the Rox up 8-0.

Colorado is 14-17 and 4-1 on this trip after a sweep of the New York Mets over the weekend.

ROCKIES STARTER’S REPORT

Tomoyuki Sugano’s outstanding April continued as he limited the Reds to four hits and three walks of shutout over 5 1/3 innings before handing the baton to the bullpen after 91 pitches, dropping his ERA to the season to 2.84.

Sugano has gone at least 5 1/3 innings in four of his last five starts, picking up his three wins so far in that span. His WHIP also stands at 1.22 for the season.

IT WAS DECIDED FOR THE ROCKIES WHEN: Goodman went deep in the seventh, allowing the Rox to pull away.

NUMBER TO NOTE: .500 — The Rockies’ average with runners in scoring position, as they went 7-for-14 with RISP on Wednesday night.
