Former Rockies SS and manager Walt Weiss made a tackle in a baseball brawl

Former Colorado Rockies shortstop and manager Walt Weiss is now 62-years-old.

That doesn’t mean he can’t still make plays.

Or in this case — a tackle.

Weiss currently manages the Atlanta Braves and they had a wild brawl with Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. It resulted in a pair of seven-game suspensions handed down by MLB on Wednesday.

But it’s Weiss who’s going the most viral for his role in the scuffle, making a textbook move to take down Jorge Soler.

Walt Weiss is always going to protect his guys and in this case it was Atlanta pitcher Reynaldo López. Clearly, he wanted Soler out of the fight before any other punches could be thrown.

It’s funny because as Rockies manager from 2013-2016, a dreadful stretch, some fans thought Weiss lacked a little bit of fire or passion. That’s clearly not the case any longer, if it was ever, as Weiss’s excellent tackle now has social media ablaze.

He was also leading some bad baseball teams during his time in Denver with not a lot to get chippy about. Weiss played for the Rockies from 1994-1997 as well.

And even though he’s now in Atlanta with the Braves, this is a cool moment for a guy in Walt Weiss that many Rockies fans are still fond of.

Just because he’s 62 doesn’t mean he won’t mix it up.
