Bo Nix pursuing No. 1 seed, wants home-field advantage for ‘special atmosphere’

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix knows what’s on the line this weekend.

With a win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, the Broncos would be the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.

That’d mean two home victories would lead to an appearance in the Super Bowl. To get it done, Nix and the Broncos have to handle a Chargers team that will be benching QB Justin Herbert.

Bo Nix didn’t talk specifically about that on Wednesday, but was asked about the importance of Denver locking in the top seed in the conference.

“It’s huge. I think that’s our main focus right now. This is the best position we could’ve put ourselves in. I think that’s the next challenge for us and it’s going to be important for us this week,” Nix said. “I think we’ve put ourselves in a great spot, obviously, and we’ve just got one more to finish it.”

Finishing it would move the Broncos to 14-3 in a wildly successful season. They’ve only lost once at Empower Field at Mile High, and Bo Nix is hoping the path to Santa Clara goes through Denver.

“Playing a home game and playing with home-field advantage, it’s an advantage for a reason. They don’t say it’s a home-field disadvantage,” Nix said.

Nix went on to talk about how the crowd has gotten better as the season has gone, specifically pointing to the last month as the games have grown in importance.

“I’m excited, I haven’t played a playoff game yet in our stadium. The (fans) have just been getting better and better as the season’s finished. The last three home games we’ve had have been special atmospheres,” Nix said.

And regardless of what happens on Sunday, Bo Nix will get a home postseason game this year. In a perfect world, it’s two of them, the divisional round and then the AFC Title Game.
