Sean Payton: Cowboys couldn’t keep up with Broncos in ‘one-sided game’

The Denver Broncos and head coach Sean Payton crushed the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Denver won 44-24 to improve to 6-2 on the season and remain in first place in the AFC West.

After the game, Payton was feeling himself and the offense a little bit. QB Bo Nix threw for four touchdowns, rookie running back RJ Harvey found the end zone three times and the Broncos dominated a contest in which many were worried the Cowboys could win in a shootout.

“I just didn’t think they could keep up with what we were doing. So I had said to the defense periodically, can you guys keep up with us? And yeah, I thought it was a pretty one-sided game,” Sean Payton said.

Dallas had 17 points until garbage time, as Denver’s defense had two interceptions of Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. It was never particularly stressful, with the Broncos up to the task facing one of the NFL’s best offenses nearly halfway through the season.

“I was proud of our defense. I challenged them, like hey we’ll get a chance to see, we’re not playing some of the teams maybe we’ve had prior. But they responded,” Payton said.

Clearly, Payton was happy with how his defense performed. They’ve been great all year, but even losing star cornerback Pat Surtain II at halftime, the Broncos never flinched.

Denver took a 27-10 lead into the break and cruised the rest of the way. Nix hooked up with rookie Pat Bryant for a touchdown, as well as Troy Franklin twice and another one to Harvey.

Rookie Jahdae Barron had a pick and so did Dondrea Tillman.

This was about as a complete of a performance as Sean Payton could’ve asked for, and the Broncos look like one of the best teams in the NFL.

Riding a five-game winning streak, anything feels possible in what might be a special season.
