The Colorado Buffaloes have been without the best tradition in college football for the first two home games of the season. On Saturday, they got their girl back.
Ralphie VII, the newest live mascot for the university, ran for the first time ahead of the Colorado vs. Wyoming game. The 700-pound American Bison was full of energy, and the Folsom Field crowd was supporting her the whole way.

One things for certain, she didn’t look indifferent to running, a catchphrase that had sadly stuck to Ralphie VI, also known as Ember. Ralphie VII, who doesn’t have a nickname yet, dashed all the way across midfield before turning back. Not a bad way to kick things off.
It was a relief for Buffs fans seeing that from the newest mascot after a handful of very underwhelming showings from Ember towards the end of the 2024 season, including her trot at the Alamo Bowl that was a sign of things to come in the ensuing game. Her tenure as Colorado’s live mascot was short-lived, but her runs were just not up to the standards set by the five who came before her.
If this is how she debuted as a one-year old, that should only mean that she’ll be rumbling at full force all the way to the other end zone in no time. If things go as planned, it should be a good next decade or so for CU fans looking to get the greatest tradition in college football restored.
