The Denver Broncos hit the road this weekend to take on the Indianapolis Colts, a team that shocked a lot of people with their play in Week 1.

Colts quarterback Daniel Jones became the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to lead a scoring drive every single time he was on the field in a regular season game, while the Broncos defense had Cam Ward and the Titans offense in a blender all throughout their season opener. Not many people were expecting the Colts or Jones to play as well as they did, and Sunday’s clash against Denver will be a tell as to whether or not they will be a team to watch out for in the AFC playoff race later in the season.

INJURIES FOR BRONCOS VS. COLTS

Broncos
Inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw did not practice on Wednesday nor Thursday with a quad injury that he continues to fight, and all signs are pointing to him being out for another game to start the season. Since the team didn’t place him on injured reserve ahead of the season, they clearly expect him back in the next couple of weeks, but Broncos Country will likely have to wait at least another week to see their new linebacker make his regular season debut.

Tight end Nate Adkins returned to practice on Thursday after undergoing a small procedure for an ankle sprain he suffered in training camp.

Other Broncos on the injury report include Evan Engram, John Franklin-Myers and Alex Singleton. All three were full participants on Thursday.

The team will announce game statuses later on Friday.

Colts
Indianapolis has already been hit hard by the injury bug this season, which could set Broncos quarterback Bo Nix up to have a successful day.

Defensive backs Charvarius Ward Jr. and Jaylon Jones have been ruled out for the contest, while defensive end Laiatu Latu didn’t practice on Friday. Running back Tyler Goodson and defensive tackle Grover Stewart were limited participants in Thursday’s practice, while wide receivers Alex Pierce and Michael Pittman Jr. were full participants that day.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR IN BRONCOS VS. COLTS

The Colts defense matched up against the Broncos offense. Nix and the Broncos struggled in Week 1, while Lou Anarumo’s squad dominated the Miami Dolphins to open their season. Broncos head coach Sean Payton took the blame for the sub-par performance to kick the season off, but he will have to be much better against a Colts defense that shined last week.

The Broncos ran the ball well against the Titans, but the balance wasn’t there. Nix dropped back 43 times while the running back tandem of J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey combined for just 22 carries. Establishing the run will be the key to opening up avenues for the passing game, but the burden is on Payton to set his team up to succeed.

This is a big game for the Broncos, as the schedule doesn’t get any easier in the near future. If they’re serious about contending for a Super Bowl, games like this are the ones they have to take care of.
