Jim Irsay’s death at the age of 65 spurred an outpouring of reaction from around the pro football world, including former Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
Irsay, the Colts’ owner since 1997 after assuming control following the death of his father, Robert Irsay, was at the helm for the entirety of Manning’s 14 seasons with the franchise before it released him in March 2012.
Peyton Manning posted his thoughts on Instagram on Wednesday after news of Jim Irsay’s passing broke.
I am heartbroken to hear about Jim Irsay’s passing. He was an incredibly generous and passionate owner and I will always be indebted to him for giving me my start in the NFL. His love for the Colts and the city of Indy was unmatched. His impact on the players who played for him will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone in the Colts community. He will be missed. Jim, rest in peace my friend, #18
