Nuggets head coach David Adelman thought they might get blown out, but they won

The Denver Nuggets stunned the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

What a cool win in a series the Nuggets were massive underdogs.

With Denver down 119-118 in the final moments, Aaron Gordon decided to be a hero. He buried a three-pointer to put the Nuggets ahead 121-119 and they stole Game 1 in Oklahoma City.

This was a theft by the Nuggets, there’s no other way to slice it.

After the game, Denver head coach David Adelman spoke about what most Denver fans couldn’t believe, his team robbed a contest to go up 1-0 in a pivotal series.

“I mean this is an amazing team that we’re competing against with a great head coach, great players in depth. So yeah, man, I just, like I said the word of the night for me has jus (to be) mentality like we did it. We stayed with it and it worked out for us,” Adelman said.

Not only did Denver take a massive 1-0 series lead on OKC in Round 2, but there’s now real belief that the Nuggets can somehow win this series.

Adelman took over once former head coach Michael Malone was shockingly fired late in the season, and somehow this squad may be able to to throw Denver a second parade in three years.

He knew Game 1 almost got away from the Nuggets. But every time it looked questionable, his team rallied.

“You’re right, because we did that. We never let go of the rope. Because it felt like a few times it was close, like they were about to blow this thing out,” Adelman said.

It’s a really cool moment for the Nuggets. They’re stunningly up 1-0 in a series that not many folks gave them a chance in.

If they can win Game 2, this will get really interesting. In the meantime, Adelman knows they stole one. That could go a long way toward another potential second title in three years.
