Russell Wilson is broken but if Sean Payton were the head coach of the Denver Broncos, could he fix the quarterback

Everyone knows Russell Wilson is broken, as the former All-Pro quarterback has suffered the worst season of his career in his first year as a Denver Bronco.

Also in his first year in Denver was Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired on Monday after the Broncos’ blowout loss in Los Angeles. In that game, Wilson threw three interceptions and had the worst game of his career by QBR. So now as Denver looks for a new coach, one of the bigger questions in the process relates to fixing Russ.

Enter Sean Payton, former Saints head coach and now retired from an NFL sideline but in the TV business. Many have linked the offensive mastermind who helped Drew Brees become of the game’s best quarterbacks ever to the Broncos opening.

Payton was asked by Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd what he would do to fix the league’s worst offense.

Payton said he would start with a cut up of Wilson’s success and find what was in common to see how he can put Russ in those positions more.

Like Brees did, Wilson, 34, said he wants to play for a long time. He’ll have six more season left on his contract after this one and if he can be fixed, the Broncos have solved their biggest issue since Peyton Manning retired. Unlike Brees, Wilson is not known as a hyper-accurate super pocket passer, his greatest hits came on the run, scrambling and throwing deep balls.

Yet a paring of a Super Bowl-winning head coach and quarterback could be very attractive for Denver.
