NFL suspends Broncos’ Randy Gregory for postgame scrap in Los Angeles

Dec 26, 2022, 12:23 PM | Updated: 10:09 pm

The National Football League was not fond of the postgame exchange between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams, suspending a player from each team a game for violations of unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary roughness rules.

Randy Gregory and Oday Aboushi threw blows at one another at midfield while the teams were shaking hands, following the Rams’ 51-14 Christmas Day win.

In letters to the players, NFL VP of football operations John Runyan wrote, “as you were walking toward a group of teammates, coaches, and media, you both stopped and swung at each other’s head and/or neck. Your aggressive conduct could have caused serious injury and clearly does not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional.”

Each player can appeal the initial one-game suspension.

The game in L.A. was just Gregory’s sixth for the Broncos, he missed a significant part of the season with injuries. He returned two weeks ago against Arizona. The former Cowboy was a big-time offseason signing by Denver.

Gregory was pulled from the game before the postgame altercation. Then Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett didn’t want the edge on the field after he committed an unnecessary roughness penalty.
