Patrick Surtain is the Broncos lone selection to the Pro Bowl roster

Dec 21, 2022, 6:14 PM

The 2022 season hasn’t been what anyone in Broncos Country expected. Few saw the team with a 4-10 record at this point. It’s been a major disappointment, by any measure.

That said, the Broncos did take one step forward this year. In one way, ’22 has been better than ’21.

Last season, Denver didn’t have a single player selected to the Pro Bowl. That ended a 41-year streak of having at least one Bronco in the all-star game. It was another sign of how far the franchise had fallen.

This year, however, a new streak has begun. Once again, the Broncos had a player selected to the Pro Bowl.

Patrick Surtain was named to the roster. The second-year cornerback will be a starter in the 2023 Pro Bowl Games.

He’s the only Bronco selected, but he could have company when the game rolls around. Justin Simmons, his defensive teammate, was named a first alternate.

Surtain is the first Broncos cornerback to make the Pro Bowl since Chris Harris Jr. in 2018. He’s the crown jewel of George Paton’s two draft classes. The cornerback has the most interceptions (six) and passes defensed (24) of any player drafted in 2021 and is the general manager’s first Pro-Bowl selection.
