Hackett completely misses the mark on Denver’s long losing streak to KC

The Broncos’ 13-game losing streak to the Chiefs is an ugly reminder of how far the franchise has fallen since Super Bowl 50.

Kansas City is the standard in the AFC West and Denver is constantly in or near the basement.

Even in a lost season, it’s important to fans to end that streak. And sooner rather than later would be nice, so we can stop thinking about it and stop talking about it. But for head coach Nathaniel Hackett, because he hasn’t been around for those defeats, it’s not a big deal.

“I mean, that’s the past,” Hackett said at his press conference on Wednesday. “We just got here, so we want to win the football game. And it’s a (AFC) West opponent and we know how important that is.”

That response from Hackett completely misses the mark. He’s basically telling fans, it’s not his problem that a bitter rival has owned you for more than six years. It wouldn’t be hard to say something like ‘we know the fans dislike the Chiefs and ending the streak is very meaningful to them, so we’re going to do our best to break it on Sunday.’

But no. Hackett can’t even get that right. Forget the 3-9 record, it’s unclear if Hackett has a competitive bone in his body. Remember, he declined to say he hates the Raiders earlier this year, despite being asked multiple times by the media to elaborate on the rivalry. It’s just another reason Hackett’s not cut out to be the coach of the Broncos. He doesn’t seem to get it.

Hopefully, these are the last five games Broncos Country will have to deal with him. Or even better, hopefully the Hackett tenure finally comes to a close on Sunday night or Monday morning after a 14th straight loss to the Chiefs.

Something he doesn’t think is a big deal.
