The Colorado sports landscape won’t be the same. On Sunday, Peter McNab, the long-time color analyst on Altitude TV for Avalanche games, passed away. He was 70 years old.

McNab had a long connection to the state of Colorado. In the early 1970s, McNab was an All-WCHA player at the University of Denver. Then, he returned to the state when the Avalanche moved to town from Quebec. He’s been a fixture on the team’s television broadcasts since 1995, making this his 27th season behind the mic for Avs games.

“The Denver sports community lost a legend and beloved friend in Avalanche broadcaster Peter McNab,” said Raj Sharan, program director at 104.3 The Fan. “From the inception of the team to their three Stanley Cup championships, Peter will forever be an iconic figure in Avalanche history.”

Broadcasting was the second career for McNab in hockey. He played 15 seasons in the NHL, donning sweaters for the Sabres, Bruins, Canucks and Devils.

“Those of us fortunate enough to have met Peter or worked with him will attest he was as kind and warm-hearted as anyone you’ll ever come across,” added Sharan. “On behalf of everyone at The Fan, our thoughts are with Peter’s friends and loved ones, his family at Altitude and the entire Avalanche organization at this difficult time.”
