Marshawn Lynch backs Russell Wilson, QB opens up on relationship

Oct 13, 2022, 1:26 PM

Russell Wilson has been taking non-stop criticism from his former teammates in Seattle since being traded to Denver. Commentary has seen Russ take shots for his infamous interception in the Super Bowl to the way his clothing lines are run.

But one person not blasting Wilson is a man who stood the most to gain if Wilson didn’t throw that Super Bowl pick. Former star Seahawks running back and would-be Super Bowl MVP Marshawn Lynch went on Richard Sherman’s podcast this week. Instead of joining the cornerback in trolling Wilson, Lynch offered his friendship.

“The backlash that bro just got like–and I know he is one of them heady guys, bro,” Lynch said about the backlash Wilson is getting. “It’s more so I want to know [how he’s doing]. I just want to tap in with him and make sure that you feel me, though; that dog (Wilson) is solid, though. Because man, at the end of the day, like, I mean, I understand what this football **** is, but you feel me? I want to make sure a dog (Wilson) is straight in his mind. Don’t let that **** overshadow you because at the end of the day, bro, you’re still a Super Bowl quarterback. Do you feel me? You know you got a beautiful family, all the shit. But, you know, ********* have been going off the deep end with how they’ve been and how they’ve been thinking.”

Lynch went on to say, “I wanna make sure [Wilson] is straight in his mind. I really thought he was going to retire a Seahawk. I want to reach out to him. Right now, they’re looking at him like a black sheep.”

Lynch was just hired to join Sherman on Amazon’s Thursday night coverage. The six-time 1,000-yard rusher was slated to join the crew earlier, but a DUI arrest put the streaming service’s plans on hold.

On Thursday, Wilson responded to Lynch via the quarterback’s press conference.

“I didn’t get to hear at Marshawn had to say, but I heard he said some good things, and you know, man, Marshawn, man, he’s a he’s a guy that I can always count on, he’s always been amazing,” Wilson said. “He’s one of the best people I’ve ever played. I’ve always looked up to him ever since he’d been around me when I was a rookie, and he put his arm around me in the back of the bus, and we talked about ball and everything else. He’s always looking at the positive things.”

Wilson soliloquized his answer about Lynch into thoughts about his struggles.

“I’ve been through tough times before come out on the other end of it and going to playoffs and all those great things,” he said. “So everything we want is still in front of us. We got to play great this week and keep on.”

So no matter how wrong Pete Carroll may have been for not giving Lynch the ball all those years ago or what Wilson has done, it seems Russ and Marshawn have something a bit deeper than the rest.
