Broncos injury report: Russell Wilson, Greg Dulcich take part in practice

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — It was a day of returns.
S Justin Simmons: back at practice.
TE Greg Dulcich: back at practice.
CB Michael Ojemudia: back at practice.
All members of that trio remain on injured reserve. But Tuesday, the Broncos started the clock on their potential return. And all three of them appeared to have no issues during the period of practice open to media observation.
“They’ve kind of gone through that four-week time period through the IR rules, and we’re looking for them to get out there and practice,” Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said.
Simmons looks poised to do the most right away; if available, he should step right back into the starting role he’s held since 2017. Ojemudia helps bolster cornerback depth in the wake of Ronald Darby’s season-ending torn ACL. Rookie CB Damarri Mathis worked on the north rehab field Tuesday.
Mathis was one of five players who worked on the north rehab field Tuesday. Joining him were RB Mike Boone, ILB Josey Jewell, NT Mike Purcell and TE Eric Saubert.

AS FOR DULCICH, he doesn’t have the prior game experience that Simmons and Ojemudia possess. Further, his recovery from the hamstring injury he suffered in OTAs has been fraught with setbacks. Finally, he plays a position — tight end — that is known for its steep learning curve for young players.
All of that is why Hackett noted that Dulcich faces a “slow process” in working his way back.
“He did some really good things for us as we were here in the OTAs and a little bit of the training camp and all that stuff,” Hackett said. “So, he’s just kind of another weapon for us, and we’re excited to get him out there.
“But he hasn’t played a lot of football lately, so it’s going to be a slow process and we want to be sure that we work him in the right way.”
Getting Russell Wilson the right amount of work is a priority, too. He practiced Tuesday and showed no apparent limitations despite the lat injury for which he received a platelet-rich-plasma injection in Los Angeles last Friday.
Wilson “should be ready to play,” Hackett noted.
“I’ve learned in this game everybody has something that’s going on,” Hackett said. “It’s a very, very physical game as we see week-in and week-out with everybody, and Russell is a very tough human being.
“He’s not going to miss anything. He wants to be out there competing for this team, so, we’ll just make sure that we take care of him, do the right things to get him to as close to 100 percent as he can.”
