Former NFL coach turned TV analyst blasts Hackett, says he’s on hot seat

Rex Ryan is from a family of football royalty, and he himself is an accomplished coach.

Ryan won a Super Bowl as an assistant in Baltimore and took the Jets to two AFC title games last decade. Ryan’s dad, Buddy, won two Super Bowls as an assistant, and his brother, Rob, has also won two Super Bowls and is currently an assistant for the Raiders. Surely the Ryans have come across Nathaniel Hackett and his dad Paul Hackett.

Rex now works for ESPN as an analyst, and he was highly critical of Hackett, saying, “he’s been awful at game management and time management, but this is a brand new overnwship group. Unless there’s an improvement, this guy will be a one-and-done.”

Former coaches are rarely this outspoken about a current coach, making Ryan’s thoughts stand out.

“There’s confusion all over the place,” Ryan said in the clip.

The Broncos are off to a 2-3 start under Hackett in his first season. Hackett was hired before the Walton-Penner Family officially bought the team, meaning the coach is not ownership’s there are guy.
