Alex Newhook has awesome day of Cup celebrations in Newfoundland

Alex Newhook could see a drastically expanded role next season with the Colorado Avalanche, after Nazem Kadri left for the Calgary Flames.

But first, the 21-year-old Avs center celebrated his Stanley Cup win by hoisting the trophy in his home providence of Newfoundland. Newhook is just the third Newfie to win hockey’s biggest trophy, joining Danny Cleary of Harbour Grace, who won the Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008, and Michael Ryder of Bonavista, who won with the Boston Bruins in 2011.

“I’ve already started thinking about the Stanley Cup coming to Newfoundland. I remember the last time it was there. I was just a kid, and it was amazing. Now I get to do it,” Newhook wrote in a blog post for the National Hockey League shortly after the Avs won it.

Newhook is from the biggest city on Canada’s most eastward island, St. Johns. There Newhook had a day to remember with the Lord.

“It’s hard to imagine … I’ve always dreamed of it obviously coming home and to be able to bring it down the stairs here,” said Newhook to local news. “It’s pretty special having all my friends and family here.

“It’s still pretty surreal.”

Along with taking it to some of Newhook’s favorite spots and back to his roots, he brought it along the beautiful coast.

He even got a great view with Stanley from the skies.

Then it was time for another rockin’ parade in the maritimes.

When you’re 21 years old, you can really party. Then his sister, a star hockey player headed to Boston College, got some love.

And to cap it off, Newhook surprised his buddies with some floor hockey.

Newhook may have had the best day with the Cup, or at the least the most active day with the Cup, out of anyone from the Avs so far.
