Senzatela leaves Rockies game after suffering apparent serious leg injury

Rockies right-handed starter Antonio Senzatela left Thursday’s game in St. Louis in the second inning after suffering a leg injury.

Senzatela was trying to field a groundball hit to the right side when he and Rockies first baseman Elehuris Montero miscommunicated, and Senzatela made a sharp cut to get the bag, and that’s when his leg gave out. The Cardinals were able to tack on their fourth run of the game on the play.

Senzatela was 3-6 over 18 starts with a 4.67 ERA coming into the day game. He’s in his sixth season with Colorado and has been a consistent starter, slightly above league average.

Austin Gomber came in from the bullpen after Senzatela was helped off the field. The first batter Gomber faced, Paul Goldschmidt, doubled to make the lead 5-0.

This ended Senzatela’s start after 1.2 innings—the shortest of his season—allowing six hits and five earned in just 28 pitches. This comes at a time when Senzatela’s previous five starts were all solid.

Charlie Blackmon also left the game with a possible tweaked back.

The Rockies are on the verge of being swept by the Cardinals, which would drop them to 51-69 on the season.
