The worst is confirmed on Tim Patrick’s injury

Aug 2, 2022, 3:11 PM | Updated: 3:14 pm

Tim Patrick’s season is over.

The Broncos’ most reliable receiver in recent years, the man for whom drops were as rare of an occurrence as a blue moon, will miss the 2022 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during Tuesday’s training-camp practice.

KUSA-Ch. 9’s Mike Klis broke the news on Twitter.

Patrick suffered the injury midway through Tuesday’s practice. He went up for a deep pass with Essang Bassey in coverage. Patrick caught the ball, but came down awkwardly on his right leg, which buckled.

The injury appeared bad from the second it happened. Patrick fell to the ground, and team medical personnel immediately arrived. His teammates quickly surrounded him, and practice paused while he was treated.

A cart took Patrick back inside the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Centre. When Patrick emerged from the cart, he tried to put weight on his right leg, but was helped inside the building.

This is the third consecutive year that the Broncos have lost a key wide receiver to a torn ACL. Denver played 14 games in 2020 without Courtland Sutton after he tore an ACL in Week 2 at Pittsburgh. A year later, KJ Hamler missed the last 14 games of the season after tearing his ACL in Week 3 against the New York Jets.

Patrick provided moral support for Sutton and Hamler during their rehab work. Now, they will do the same for Patrick as he begins his long road back.
