The story of Denver Broncos training camp Day 6 was not a good one.

Wide receiver Tim Patrick left practice with an apparent knee injury, carted off during a scary moment at the UCHealth Training Center.

While the official word on Patrick is yet to be know, early indications are it doesn’t look good. There’s a decent chance Patrick will be lost for significant time, or maybe even the entire 2022 season.

And while the Broncos could look for outside help, they also have plenty of capable wide receivers on their roster. That includes second-year player Seth Williams out of Auburn. He was originally a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Williams joined Stokley and Zach on 104.3 The Fan on Tuesday after camp and was asked about the Patrick injury.

“It was scary, because you don’t know what’s happening. He goes up for a pass and comes down and tries to take two steps and he just falls. You want to make sure your brother is okay. I’ve known him for two years now, he’s like a big brother to me, he’s taught me so much in this league. I hope the best for him,” Williams said.

If Patrick is okay, that’s great news. If he’s not, the Broncos will need guys like Williams to step up. He projects to be a special teams player, but could be thrust into a bigger role. Williams had just one catch for 34 yards last year, but is excited about working with new QB Russell Wilson.

“It’s crazy, you grow up watching him on TV. I’m 22, so I’ve been watching him since I was a kid. Just to see him in person, you’re going to listen to everything he says. He’s a natural leader. He’s been to two Super Bowls. He won one, he lost one, and you know he has nothing but knowledge,” Williams said.

The average Broncos fan may not know Williams, but he put up very solid stats in three years at Auburn. Williams had 132 catches, more than 2,100 yards and 17 TDs during his career with the Tigers. Williams is taking in Wilson’s knowledge, while also appreciating his vast experience in the NFL.

“He’s a teammate and a coach at the same time,” Williams said. “Because he’s seen stuff that you haven’t seen before. He can give you a little more wisdom on something you haven’t even heard of.”

And Williams could be in for a year in the NFL he never expected, with a possible bigger role given what happened to Patrick on Tuesday. It’s extremely unfortunate, but Williams sounds ready to go.
