New Broncos QB Russell Wilson isn’t just making the offense better.

He’s helping the defense as well.

Denver safety Kareem Jackson spoke after training camp on Thursday and discussed how Wilson is not only improving the “O” (duh), but the “D” as well.

“Definitely. A ton of different looks from those guys,” Jackson said. “For us, as a defense, just making sure our communication is top of the line. Especially with me and Justin (Simmons). Seeing different formations and all the things that they do, and obviously (Russell’s) skill set. So, (he) definitely makes us better on a day-to-day basis,”

It’s no secret the Broncos defense has been the strength of this team the past couple of years, but the increased pressure from a good offense in camp has to help. Wilson found Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick for key completions in 11-on-11 drills early, but then the defense adjusted.

The play of the day was when Wilson took a deep shot to Jeudy, looked like he had him, and Simmons came out of nowhere to bat the football down. The crowd on the hill at UCHealth Training Center erupted after Denver’s best defender squandered the opportunity.

“I think as a whole, defensively, everyone’s kind of flying around,” Jackson said. “It’s just day two. We’ve got a long way to go, but definitely excited about what we can be.”

And what the Broncos can be, for the first time in a long time, is a complete team. Wilson will take care of the offense, but he’ll help the defense along the way as well.
