Rockies awarded one very sad All-Star selection since MLB requires it

Jul 10, 2022, 3:55 PM | Updated: 3:58 pm

Major League Baseball announced the 2022 All-Star Game reserves on Sunday, and the Colorado Rockies got their guaranteed representative.

C.J. Cron will be headed to Los Angeles later this month, named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Cron is slashing .295/.350/.551 with 20 homers and 66 RBI. This is his second season with Colorado after signing a minor-league deal and earning a roster spot before the 2021 season. This is his ninth season in MLB and already one of his bests. Cron’s 2.2 fWAR is fifth among National League first basemen this season.

Cron came up with the Angeles and is from Fullerton, so he’ll get to be an All-Star in a state he’s familiar with.

Cron leads the Rockies in home runs, runs, runs batted in and slugging percentage.

The Rockies are 37-48, 18.5 games back of the All-Star Game hosting Dodgers, who are in first place.

The Rockies also only had one All-Star last season. German Marquez was Colorado’s lone All-Star last year when Denver hosted the Mid-Summer Classic.
