Josh Kroenke’s highly anticipated press conference has been moved twice

May 26, 2022, 4:02 PM | Updated: 4:06 pm

Today was supposed to be the day.

Nuggets and Avalanche Governor Josh Kroenke was scheduled to meet the media at Ball Arena on Thursday, but recently tested positive for COVID-19. The Nuggets announced Kroenke’s press conference is now tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 31.

“Over the past two days multiple members of the Denver Nuggets staff have tested positive for COVID-19, including Governor Josh Kroenke,” The Nuggets said in a release. “Thank you for your understanding and apologies for any inconvenience. Updates will be provided when available.”

This is actually the second time Kroenke’s highly anticipated presser has been moved, as it was supposed to be on Wednesday. That one was canceled due to an “arena conflict,” as the Avalanche and Blues played Game 5 later that evening. Puck drop wasn’t scheduled until 6:00 p.m. and Kroenke was supposed to speak at noon, but apparently that couldn’t work.

COVID-19 is obviously serious, and the last thing Kroenke wants to do is infect anyone, but if the Nuggets knew he had the virus, why wasn’t that the reason given for Wednesday’s postponement? And could the press conference have been held virtually? These are fair questions, but we probably won’t learn the answers.

The reason for the press conference is undoubtedly to discuss Nuggets President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly leaving for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but other questions about the state of KSE are likely to be asked.

When will the games be back on Xfinity / Comcast and Dish Network? Are there plans to build a dedicated practice facility for the Nuggets? Will the Avs still practice at Family Sports Center in Centennial? Or will they get a practice rink at some point?

Let’s hope Kroenke feels better soon, tests negative, and can indeed hold the media session next week. A third postponement, when fans want answers to several questions, likely wouldn’t go over very well.
