WATCH: Brayden Schenn’s epic penalty box meltdown

May 18, 2022, 12:14 AM

With just over a minute left in regulation of Game 1 between the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, a questionable penalty was called.

Brayden Schenn was sent off for high sticking after getting tangled up with an Avalanche player and his stick swung around and hit the opponent. Schenn’s argument was that it wasn’t that high of a stick considering the home team’s player fell over and Schenn stick didn’t rise above his belt. But that’s still a high sticking penalty in hockey.

Schenn was ticked off to say the least.

While Schenn and his stick looked more like a Rockies hitter on the road than a hockey player, the penalty didn’t end up costing the Blues the game. Colorado’s dangerous powerplay couldn’t convert but they netted one at even strength about eight minutes later in overtime. Schenn did hurt the Blues in the sense that his penalty killed any momentum the team had from their game-tying goal minutes before. St. Louis didn’t got a shot on net after scoring the goal then taking this penalty from Schenn.
