Rockies reporter Kelsey Wingert “doing well” after being struck by foul ball

There was a scary situation in the ninth inning of the Rockies and Giants game on Monday night when Rockies AT&T Sportsnet reporter Kelsey Wingert was struck in the head by a foul ball.
The incident happened with Austin Slater at the plate for San Francisco and no outs in the frame. Rockies closer Daniel Bard delivered an 0-2 pitch that Slater slashed into the camera well near the first-base dugout. It’s one of the only unprotected places left on the field without netting, and Wingert was doing her reporting from down there.
Video of the incident, including a shot of her being helped through the dugout on the Giants broadcast is below:

It was frightening all-around, especially after Rockies analyst Jeff Huson asked Wingert if she was okay and there was no response. The clip above cuts off, but there was about 20 seconds of silence on the Rockies broadcast before play-by-play man Drew Goodman discussed the dangers of the camera well without protective netting. Thankfully Goodman was able to provide the update in the ninth inning that Wingert was receiving medical attention and is going to be okay.
The television network released a statement on Tuesday confirming she was indeed alright, but the incident was was still significant.

Overall, it’s great to hear Wingert is going to be okay. She’s a great reporter, new to the Rockies gig this year, and it’s truly a bad luck and fluky thing that happened. Here’s hoping we see Kelsey back on the AT&T Sportsnet broadcast sooner rather than later.
