Jeudy’s lawyer says he shouldn’t have been arrested, WR released on bond

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy appeared in court on Friday morning and was released on bond following a hearing.

Jeudy was arrested on Thursday for a misdemeanor charge of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer.

“There was no threat of violence, there was no attempted violence, and there was no violence, period,” Jeudy’s lawyer Harvey Steinberg told reporters at the courthouse.

9News Denver reported on Thursday that Jeudy admitted to investigators that he locked his child’s mother’s wallet and baby formula in his car. It was a response to taking one of his phones, he said. 9News followed by saying Jeudy’s girlfriend used a neighbor’s phone to call for help.

“Bad things happen to good people, and that’s what this case is,” Steinberg said of Jeudy’s arrest. “I don’t think he should have been arrested. I don’t think he should have been incarcerated. And I think people are going to look at this and come to the same conclusion that I did and say, ‘boy, this is a bump in the road.’ This is a really, really good guy, and we’re sorry this had to happen to him.”

According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS, the alleged victim in the case told the court on Friday morning that she never felt threatened and does not feel threatened now. She said she called 911 “hoping police would monitor the situation,” but did not want Jeudy arrested. The “no contact” order between Jeudy and the woman has been been dropped.

Jeudy spent Thursday night in jail.

Jeudy is scheduled to return to court for his next hearing on May 31.
