Karl played five seasons professionally in San Antonio from 1973-1978 before starting a legendary coaching career. He was just 33-years old when he began his head coaching career with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1984. Karl led the Cavs, Warriors, Sonics, Bucks, Nuggets and Kings during an NBA coaching stint that spanned four decades.
He coached 1,999 games, winning 1,175, good for sixth most in NBA history. Nuggets fans will remember Karl’s time in Denver fondly as he turned one of the doormats of the NBA around. Karl led the Nuggets from 2004-2013, winning NBA Coach of the Year in his final season in Denver. The Nuggets made the playoffs every year under Karl and reached the Western Conference Finals in 2009.
Karl joined 104.3 The Fan in August of 2020 and can be heard across all shows on the station’s airwaves. He is just one of nine coaches in NBA history to have won at least 1,000 career games.
It’s the greatest honor of my career to be elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Basketball has meant everything to me and I’m thrilled beyond words. 🙏🏼🏀
