NOTE: This article has been updated below

A fire broke out inside of Empower Field at Mile High on Thursday afternoon.

Pictures and videos surfaced on social media of smoke coming from the stadium shortly after 2:00 p.m. — with traffic halting on I-25. The source of the fire was from seats inside the stadium, according to the Denver Fire Department.

As the tweet says, the cause of the fire is still undetermined, but a follow up tweet says the fire is now under control.

A media briefing is expected to happen shortly with more information.

(Update 3:15 p.m.) –

The official Empower Field at Mile High Twitter account says no injuries occurred in the fire.

At a press conference, a Denver Fire Department spokesman said he’s not sure if there’s structural damage to the stadium. He estimates over 1,000 square feet of the stadium burned in the fire. It’s still unclear what caused the fire.

(Update 4:38 p.m.) –

9NEWS’ Mike Klis says construction work on the East side of the stadium may have started the fire.
