The Broncos head to the Indianapolis for the combine on Monday. And there is work to do.
First, they’ve got to figure out what to do at the quarterback position. That’s the biggest thing. They can’t make the playoffs next year unless they upgrade the quarterback position.
Certainly, they have to monitor what’s going on with Aaron Rodgers. He could be the key in getting them to the playoffs. They have to look at Carson Wentz, Jimmy Garoppolo and other veteran quarterbacks. They have to look at the three or four quarterbacks who might go in the first four rounds.
Other than that, the Broncos should be in good shape. They are great at wide receiver. They don’t have to go for a running back. They are solid on the offensive line. Their secondary is perhaps the best in the league. They are good at tight end.
What they might need to look at is defensive line for their 3-4 defense. That’s a solid position in this draft, so they can get some help. They could also look at inside linebacker. We’ll see if they want to add an outside pass-rusher to pressure the quarterback, but that isn’t urgent despite the Von Miller trade.
That’s not a bad position to be in. The AFC West is one of the best divisions in the NFL and the Broncos need to catch up to get out of fourth place.
The division has good quarterbacks and solid rosters. Clearly, quarterback makes the biggest challenge, but the Broncos roster is good enough if they get the right quarterback.
